Optimized Creton Grinding

Post by anon on June 12th 2012, 4:59 pm

as you reach lvl 100, you want to be able to optimize your ability to run through creton to grind the machina. mostly to find the demonic armour, but also to entertain the pubs.

now that it is easier to obtain the godly claws, i'll start by assuming you are now have them in your arsenal. what is the best way to optimize your creton run throughs?

Life/Vitality
1: don't harp on life. if you are loosing a lot of life, then you are not grinding fast enough - you are not optimizing correctly. before the machina dealt 400 damage in a hit, you could run creton with 400 health. now, all that is necessary is 500.
~~~the heart of the dragon talent maxxed will bring you to 200 health.
~~~30 vitality is all that needs to be utilized to pump you up to 500.

2: you should be recieving all your health from your damage dealt. maximized vampiric tendencies is a MUST.

Speed/Agility
1: this entire guide is about making your creton run throughs as fast as possible. i hope i don't have to say you need 100 agility.
2: light armours will help make you faster. once again, do not worry about the lack of armour - if you are taking too much damage, you are not running through at optimized capacity. light wool armour will give you the most armour of the lights.

DPS
1: you may be inclined to one-hit everything in creton par the machina, but you are wrong. the fact that you have so little health means you must constantly be hitting. this becomes even more apparent in the bio-dome: if you fail to hit fast enough, you will be destroyed. however, there is a perfect mix of strength and dexterity that will allow you to survive with no pot maintenence, even if you are getting mobbed in the bio-dome. and it all starts with whether or not you have tolic's fire orb.

2: WITH TOLIC'S FIRE ORB: with tolic's fire orb, you can pump your dex to 190 and your strength to 180. since war machines have range, they will always hit you before you hit them - allowing you to two-hit war machines, whereas without the fire orb, you would three-hit war machines. this faster speed allows you to survive in the biodome alone without potting. even if you are being mobbed, you will constantly be maintaining your health around the 100-350 range.

3: WITHOUT TOLIC'S FIRE ORB: without tolics fire orb, you need only switch the two stats around (strength at 190, dex at 180), and have a orb of might take the fire orb's place. you will two hit war machines like with the fire orb build; however the bio-dome becomes a little bit more dangerous, and potting becomes necessary to do once or twice. that little bit of dex, and the fire orb ability, makes all the difference.

ARMOUR
1: speed is the name of the game here, and light armours make your speed unparalleled. however, if you are inclined to wear shining, radiant, what have you armour on these run throughs, it will make you harder to kill and will possibly save your hide in the bio-dome should you be running the "sans fire orb" build, but it will cut your speed considerably.

HOW TO PROCEED THROUGH CRETON
1: personally attacking each mob you find is cumbersome and only slows you down. however, with your low health, you constantly need to be attacking things or the war machines will kill you. the answer to this conundrum is to ATTACK-MOVE to the end of the proceeding valley or hill.

2: for example, when you first enter the creton mob spawning area, you walk up a hill. directly below you is the end of the valley, which will lead up to the next hill. ATTACK-MOVE to the end of that valley - you will automatically (and incredibly quickly) move your way through the mobs like a wrecking ball. when you are in the valley, before you even reach your destination, ATTACK-MOVE to the top of the next hill. you will then run through the valley, and up to the hill. lastly, ATTACK-MOVE to the creton trench, and you will grind your way to the clear and open path to the machina.

THE MACHINA
1: this is what your speed comes down to; getting here fast and killing without dying. how do you do it? well, simply attack and don't worry. should you have specced like i've outlined here, your health (though it may dip to less than 100) will always bounce back to 500 before it can get its next shot off. you have nothing to worry by solo-ing the machina, and even with 500 health you will NOT die. expect the battle to last about 15-20 seconds in a 4-player game.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i personally run the fire orb build, because it allows you more survivability with less armour. this may seem a bit weird at first, having a lot of hands off-movement, but it's fun to chat with other players while you do so, and many other legendaries you meet are awed by how quickly and efficiently you grind through creton.
i've been running this build long enough to build up close to 1 million cash without selling anything. i usually just drop off a bunch of items for noobs. there's nothing to be afraid of. unless the game glitched out your vampiric spectacularly, you will not die. you can leave your computer and not die. i've done it.
well, actually, you can die, but that's only if you try to rush through creton, or anywhere, without attacking anything - something i explicitly state you should NOT do in the OP.
also, tanking the biodome isn't bad when you're alone, but more people in the biodome means more mobs. 3+ people in the biodome can lead to you being killed. 2 people is really pushing it. this build is meant to be ran alone when in the biodome, not in a group.
vamp no longer is too glitchy. it only does not work if you load the game with it active.
also, there is a "sans fire orb" build. you can do this with or without the fire orb.
like i said, i know it sounds weird having so little health and no need for armour. but, if you just follow the guide, your basic DPS output will always exceed your damage taken. trust me, i've been rocking this build ever since i hit lvl 100.
